Terms and privacy

Terms of Sale for Bjørkheim Sauna

Last updated: 2 November 2026

1. The agreement

The agreement consists of these terms of sale, the information given in the Periode booking system, and any separate terms we have agreed in writing. If these conflict, what is separately agreed prevails, unless it conflicts with mandatory law. If one clause is invalid, the rest still applies. The agreement is supplemented by the Norwegian rules that govern sales between a business and a consumer, and between businesses.

2. The parties

The seller is Bjørkheim Sauna AS, company registration number 830 015 922, with registered business address Bjørkheim 7, 5652 Årland, Norway. The company owns and operates Bjørkheim Sauna, located at the Teigavika bathing area in Samnanger. You can reach us at info@bjorkheimsauna.no and +47 476 32 329. In this agreement Bjørkheim Sauna AS is called "the seller" or "we".

The buyer is the person or business that places the booking, called "the buyer" or "you". If you are a consumer, Norwegian consumer protection applies in full. If you are a business, the rules on the right of withdrawal do not apply.

3. What we sell

We sell access to the wood-fired floating sauna in Teigavika. The sauna is self-service: you enter with a one-time code on the code lock, light the stove yourself with firewood, and manage the session yourself from arrival to locking up. Heating time is part of your session, so the sauna may be cold when you arrive, if nobody has fired it in the session before yours.

We offer two kinds of sessions, and you book both directly in the booking system. A shared session gives you a place in a two-hour session, where up to twelve people can book individually. If you book the whole sauna, you have it to yourselves for two hours, up to twelve people, and you light the stove yourselves as in a shared session. On Saturdays and Sundays from 12:00 you can instead buy the whole sauna pre-heated. Then we will have lit the stove before you arrive, and the firewood is included. Punch cards and gift cards are covered in clause 8.

The sauna is open all year. What a session costs, and which times are available, are shown in the booking system before you pay.

4. Price

The price is stated in Norwegian kroner and is the total price you pay, with all taxes included. If costs arise that were not stated when you booked, we will clarify them with you in writing before they are charged. In the booking you may be offered voluntary extras, such as firewood for the stove. They are not necessary for the session, and you choose whether you want them.

5. Booking and payment

Booking and payment take place in Periode, by Vipps or card. The agreement is binding from the moment we have received your booking. You pay when you book, and you receive a one-time code for the code lock and a short instruction by email.

The agreement is nevertheless not binding if there is a typing error in the offer or in the booking, and the other party realised or should have realised that such an error existed.

6. Age limit

You must be at least 16 years old to book. Children under 16 may use the sauna only accompanied by an adult over 18, who is responsible for the session. If we discover that someone under 16 has booked without such accompaniment, we may cancel the booking.

7. Access to the sauna

The one-time code is valid only for the booked session. You are responsible for checking that the code has arrived by email after payment. If it has not, tell us right away and you will get a new code. We are not obliged to issue a code after the session has started. Cleaning up after use is part of the deal, see the house rules.

8. Cancellation, withdrawal, punch cards and gift cards

Shared sessions and the whole sauna

A booked session is a leisure service with a fixed date and time. For such services there is no right of withdrawal, cf. the Norwegian Right of Withdrawal Act section 22 (m). The booking is binding once paid and gives no right to a refund or rebooking.

If we must cancel the session because of weather, safety or technical failure, you receive a full refund or a new time, whichever you prefer. We do not cover consequential costs, such as travel or lost time. We never cancel a booked session just to rent it to someone else.

Punch cards

A punch card is a prepaid right to a set number of sessions, where each punch gives one session. The punch card is valid for two years from purchase and cannot be redeemed for cash. As a consumer you have a 14-day right of withdrawal from purchase, as long as no punches have been used. A session booked with a punch follows the session rules above. If we change the punch card terms, we notify you at least 30 days in advance, and the change does not apply retroactively.

Gift cards

If you buy a gift card, you have as a consumer a 14-day right of withdrawal from purchase, as long as the gift card has not been used. The gift card is valid for three years from purchase, in line with the Norwegian Limitation Act, and cannot be redeemed for cash. Once the gift card is used to book a session, the session rules apply.

9. Your rights on defects or delay

If the sauna does not meet the agreed standard, or is not available at the booked time for reasons on our side, you may claim a new time or a proportionate price reduction. For punch cards, gift cards and any goods, the Norwegian Consumer Purchases Act applies. You must notify us within reasonable time after you discovered or should have discovered the issue.

10. If you do not keep your part

If you do not pay, we may claim late-payment interest under the Norwegian Late Payment Interest Act and fees under the Debt Collection Act, after notice. If you use the sauna in breach of the house rules, serious or repeated breaches may lead to us terminating the agreement, turning you away or excluding you, and claiming damages. You are liable for damage you or your guests cause to the sauna or the equipment. If you exceed the number of people booked, we may claim compensation.

11. Liability and safety

We make sure the sauna is technically sound and maintained.

The sauna is wood-fired, and you light the stove yourself. You are responsible for firing safely: only in the stove, only with firewood, and with the stove door closed when you are not adding wood.

You and your guests use the sauna at your own risk as far as your own health is concerned. High heat and cold water can be demanding, and for some people dangerous, for example with cardiovascular disease or pregnancy. Judge for yourself whether you and your guests should bathe, and bathe responsibly. You are responsible for bathing safely, not using the sauna under the influence, keeping the number of people within the limit, and supervising children.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that we cannot waive under mandatory law, including liability for personal injury caused by our negligence.

12. Personal data

We process your personal data as described in our privacy policy. Bjørkheim Sauna AS is the data controller.

13. Complaints and disputes

If you have a complaint, tell us within reasonable time and we will try to find a solution. If we do not reach agreement, you may bring the matter to the Norwegian Consumer Authority (Forbrukartilsynet) for mediation, by phone +47 23 40 06 00 or at forbrukertilsynet.no. Disputes are otherwise settled under Norwegian law.

Privacy Policy for Bjørkheim Sauna

Last updated: 2 November 2026

Bjørkheim Sauna AS, company registration number 830 015 922, is the data controller for the personal data we process when you use Bjørkheim Sauna. Here we explain what we collect, why, how long we keep it, and what rights you have. Contact us at info@bjorkheimsauna.no if you have questions about privacy.

What we collect

We process your name, your contact details such as email and phone number, and information about the booking and the payment, including punch cards and gift cards. The card details themselves go to the payment provider, not to us. We receive the data from you, or it is generated when you use the service.

Your consent choice is stored locally in your browser and are not sent to us. For visitor statistics we use Vercel Web Analytics, which provides anonymous, aggregated statistics without cookies and without identifying you.

Cookies and advertising measurement

We advertise on Google, and to see which advertising spend leads to bookings we use Google Analytics and Google Ads. The first time you visit, we ask whether you consent to this. If you consent, these services set cookies in your browser and send information about the visit to Google, including your IP address, which pages you view and whether you book a session.

If you decline, we set no such cookies. Google then receives only a cookieless signal that someone visited, without you being identifiable, and the site is configured to redact advertising identifiers. The legal basis for the measurement is your consent, GDPR article 6(1)(a).

You can change your choice at any time with the button at the end of this policy. Google Ireland Limited processes the data on our behalf, and for the advertising measurement also for its own purposes. The data may be transferred to the USA. Google retains visit measurement data for up to 14 months.

Why we process the data, and on what basis

We process the data to carry out the booking and fulfil the agreement with you, including generating the one-time code for the code lock. The legal basis is GDPR article 6(1)(b), that the processing is necessary to perform the contract.

We process the data to manage the customer relationship, such as customer service and error correction. The basis is article 6(1)(b), and for parts of this our legitimate interest in running the service, article 6(1)(f).

If you have been to a session with us, you may receive a short email a few days after your visit asking how it went and whether you would like to leave a review on Google. It goes to the address you gave when booking, and the basis is our legitimate interest in receiving feedback and making the place better, GDPR article 6(1)(f). If you would rather not receive such emails, reply to the email or tell us at info@bjorkheimsauna.no, and we will not send any more.

We process data related to sales to keep accounts. The basis is article 6(1)(c), a legal obligation under the Norwegian Bookkeeping Act.

We process data for security and to detect misuse. The basis is our legitimate interest, article 6(1)(f).

If we send you news or marketing, we do so based on consent or legitimate interest, and you can opt out at any time.

Data processors

We use Periode for booking and payment, by Vipps or card, and our lock system to generate the one-time code for your session. The website is hosted by our operations provider, who process technical data on our behalf. If you consent to measurement, we also use Google Analytics and Google Ads, see the section on cookies. We have data processing agreements where required, and otherwise disclose data only when necessary to fulfil the agreement with you, or when the law requires it.

How long we keep the data

We keep the data as long as we need it for the purpose. Transaction data is kept for five years as required by the Norwegian Bookkeeping Act. Punch card and gift card data is kept as long as they are valid, and a reasonable time after.

Your rights

You may request access to the data we hold about you, and you may ask us to correct or supplement data that is wrong. You may ask us to delete data about you, but data we must keep by law, for example accounting records, will not be deleted. You may ask us to restrict processing, object to processing based on legitimate interest, and receive your data in a machine-readable format. If you have given consent, you may withdraw it at any time.

If you believe we are not following the rules, we hope you tell us first. You may also complain to the Norwegian Data Protection Authority (Datatilsynet).

House Rules for Bjørkheim Sauna

Last updated: 27 August 2026

Bjørkheim Sauna should be a pleasure for everyone, both for you who are here now and for those who come after you, and not a nuisance to neighbours or others in the area. The sauna is self-service, so keeping it pleasant rests on everyone taking a little responsibility. These are the rules we keep.

The code is yours only

Arrive in good time, and enter the one-time code you received on the code lock. The code is valid only for your session. Do not let in, or give the code to, people who have not paid.

The jetty has a limit

Keep the number of people within what you have booked. This is about safety and about the weight the sauna and the floating jetty can take.

Fire with dry wood

The stove is wood-fired, and you light it yourself. Fire only in the stove and only with dry firewood, either your own or what you ordered from the storage bench. Control the draught with the ash pan, not by leaving the stove door open, and leave the ash in the stove when you go.

Only water on the stones

Only clean, fresh water on the sauna stones, and in moderation.

Sit on a towel

Sit on a towel large enough that you are not in direct contact with the benches. Do not bring food into the sauna itself.

No alcohol

Alcohol is not permitted at the Teigavika bathing area, cf. the Norwegian Alcohol Act section 8-9. Do not use the sauna under the influence. Bathe responsibly, and keep an eye on children and on those who are bathing.

Clean up after yourself

Clean up after yourself and leave the sauna as you found it. Soft soap spray and a squeegee are out on the bench, and it only takes a couple of minutes.

Show consideration

If you share the session with others, take no more space than you need. Show consideration for the neighbours and for others using Teigavika.

Lock up and report faults

Lock up when you leave. If you see a fault or damage, tell us at info@bjorkheimsauna.no.

Serious or repeated breaches of the rules may lead to being turned away, exclusion, termination of the agreement and claims for damages.
