How a session works
Two hours, from the match to the fjord. The door code comes by email.

- 2Light the fireLeave the ash pan open so the fire gets a good draught. Fill the stove generously once the fire has caught.

- 4Bathe and jump in the fjordThe fjord is two steps away. The ice hole is kept open all winter.
- 5Tidy up and goLeave the sauna as you found it. Soft soap spray and a scrubber are out.

The sauna
Bjørkheim Sauna was built in 2022 to give Samnanger a meeting place across generations. Since then, locals and visitors have shared the benches, the fjord and the simple pleasures.
An open community
Low prices and simple use keep the threshold low. Neighbours, cabin owners and passers-by bathe side by side.
Good health
The sauna builds on the strong winter bathing culture in the municipality.
No electricity
Built in local timber and heated with wood. The sauna runs entirely without electricity.

- Two public toilets at the bathing area. You pass them on the way down.

That depends on whether someone has fired it in the session before yours. Otherwise you light the stove yourself, and heating time is included in the two hours. If you book the whole sauna on a Saturday or Sunday from 12:00, you can buy it pre-heated. Then the firewood is included.
Yes. Choose “Whole sauna” when you book. Then nobody else can book a place in that session, and you can be up to 12 people.
Leave the ash pan open while you light up, so the fire gets a good draught. Once the fire is going well, fill the stove generously with wood without smothering the flames. When the sauna reaches 70–80 degrees, you can close the ash pan.
After booking you receive a one-time code by email. Enter the code on the code lock by the door and you are in.
Bring your own dry firewood, or order 40 litres for 115 NOK when you book. The firewood is in the black storage bench just inside the door, and the code to the bench is in the email.

Two public toilets are at the bathing area. There is no shower; you bathe in the fjord.
